I have to say, it's great to be a Bostonian these days. Sports wise, anyhow. I've been a sports fan (you can't live here without being one-it's a law) as far back as I can remember.
There have been bad times-I remember how the Patriots were pre-Bellichik, bottom of the league. I remember the curse. Reverse the Curse was our logo in regards to the Red Sox. They'd rip your heart out every year. (In Bostonian: "haht out every yeah")
There were good times too-the Celtics winning the title year after year. Larry Bird. Robert Parrish. The Bruins. Oh, man the Bruins were fun, in a "let's have a fight and start a hockey game" sort of way. Kids from Southie (South Boston), Townies (Charlestown kids), and Slummaville (Somerville) kids. There was always fighting going on both on and off the rink. Guaranteed bloodshed somewhere, but the fights were always only fistfights-never knives or guns, not like kids now. The Bruins were always #1 or #2 in the league-it was us against the Canadiens (Montreal team).
But now, man, the World Series (stop your whining, we all know the championship series has nothing to do with the rest of the world. It's just a name.) here in Boston, AGAIN. That's just awesome. And Vegas odds have the Sox to beat the Rockies 2-1. That's pretty good odds.
And the Patriots? C'mon, even if you aren't a fan-just take a LOOK at Tom Brady. The man is talented and handsome! I admit, I was skeptical when they picked up Randy Moss-he had a bad reputation.... Man, he's come through-cleaned up his act and now, what a player-no one talks about that bad reputation anymore-just how well he's playing.
The Celtics seem to be getting back on track this season-there's even a possibility they might come out on top this year with their new players.
The Bruins? Well, their season only started last Thursday. I'm going to keep an eye on them, and pray.
This town's like heaven for the sports fan!
