I've asked this on other boards... has anyone seen The Big Blue? www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00004TWZF/qid=1094669365/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_2/103-9332774-4426247?v=glance&s=dvdthe trailer for Freediver makes it look like almost the exact same movie. Instead of the gorgeous, mediterranean hunk freediver with a perky blonde love interest, it's a perky blonde freediver with a gorgeous mediterranean love interest.... of course trailers can be woefully misleading. But I just have to think... how many freediving movies are out there? How much of an influence was Big Blue?? cause I'm a big Luc Besson fan.

Hmm, I read the description on Amazon for The Big Blue and it doesn't sound anything like what I've heard about The Freediver. I may be wrong, but I thought The Freediver was about a woman being pushed by her trainer in a sport that a person could die if pushed too far. But that was just my understanding of it.

How much of an influence was Big Blue?? I've seen the Big Blue, and almost every Luc Besson's movies. The Big Blue was a great success (a phenomenon in France) so it wouldn't be surprising if it inspired other films out there.

Freediver is based on an actual person. She still dives and has made one or two (if not more) documentary's related to her diving. The film version of Freediver have made the ending typically hollywood but apart from that it's a decent little film, well worth a look.
