www.buddytv.com/articles/chuck/chuck-sure-to-return-but-when-16511.aspx'Chuck' Sure to Return, but When? Monday, February 11, 2008 Now that the veil of discord and hopelessness appears to have been lifted with the apparent resolution of the writers' strike, the television viewing public has some reason to look forward to new episodes of their favorite shows. However, not all programs will resume production immediately, as some execs are opting wait a bit longer before the resumption of fresh material. One such series is NBC's Chuck, which, according to executive producer Josh Schwartz, isn't likely to return until the fall. "If the strike is over, then on behalf of Chuck and Gossip Girl we are all thrilled to get back to work,” Schwartz, who is at the helm of both shows, told E! Online. “Both shows will be back for more episodes - when I can't quite say, though Gossip Girl will most likely be on as soon as possible. Chuck may not be back until fall to re-launch with Heroes, or it may be back sooner, but both will be back!" The last time we witnessed Chuck, we were treated to a double dose via back-to-back episodes that sandwiched The Celebrity Apprentice. Over two weeks ago, Episode 12 entitled “Chuck Versus the Undercover Lover” aired from 8-9pm while installment 13 called “Chuck Versus the Marlin” got going from 10-11pm. Director McG told iF Magazine last week that those final two installments deliberately veered away from Chuck's Christmas offering, which dropped the bomb regarding Chuck's (Zachary Levi) impending termination with the possible arrival of a new intersect. "We wanted to get involved in Casey's back story and what he's like as a leading man, and we wanted to have some fun there, but also keep the balance of the show and the action-intrigue component but also the fundamental humanity of these nitwits that are over their heads," McG remarked. "Obviously what Josh Gomez [Morgan Grimes] is doing, what Zach Levi is doing, they do a good job bringing the comedic energy and we rely on [Adam] Baldwin [(John Casey)] and Yvonne [Strahovski (Sarah Walker)] to bring the physicality and proficiency to a very different world." While director McG admitted that Chuck episodes 12 and 13 were intended to play up the character dynamics, particularly that of Baldwin's character, he does promise that story involving the new intersect will be “the dominant idea that will be serviced in the balance of the season.” -Rosario Santiago, BuddyTV Staff Columnist Source: E! I think of it this way, it gives the writers more time to write more shows for it which means we get treated to better shows as long as the BIG BAD doesn't get in the way.
